Aviation English Proficiency
We provide aviation personnel with the necessary English language skills to operate safely and effectively in an aviation environment, and to reach the level of proficiency specified in the ICAO level 4 profile. Aviation professionals are required to reach and maintain an ICAO level 4 in order to remain operational.
Although the course covers a range of topics associated with the aviation industry in general, it is of particular relevance for pilots and air-traffic controllers. It concentrates on the use of plain English in non-routine and emergency situations, but also supports the standard phraseology necessary to bring authenticity to each situation.
The following non-routine/emergency situations are covered:
Runway Incursion, Bird Strike, On-board Fire, Depressurisation, Extreme Weather, Medical Emergency, Technical Failure, Unlawful Interference.
Where appropriate, those situations are studied in the context of the following flight phases:
Pre-flight, Departure, Climbing & Cruising, En-route, Contact & Approach, Landing.
The content focuses on the six areas of language skill specified by ICAO.
These are: Structure, Comprehension, Fluency, Interaction, Pronunciation, Vocabulary.
As English is now the primary language for international business communication, it is more important than ever for people working with colleagues, clients and partners from other countries to understand each other and form effective business links. The overall aim of this course is to expose students to a range of business scenarios, increasing their confidence and improving their overall ability in each of the four main skills: speaking, listening, reading and writing.
Our Business English courses are tailored to specific needs, and therefore an exact curriculum cannot be stated here. However, a Grammar Level test and a Needs Analysis exercise are conducted at the beginning of the course and the results carefully studied. From these results, a course is designed to satisfy students’ needs and work on areas of common weakness, optimising available timescales
Typically, our Business English course would include the following skills:
Conducting & contributing to meetings, giving presentations, developing business vocabulary, telephone (and conference) calls, understanding cultural diversity, negotiating, summarising, paraphrasing, report writing, producing formal emails, letters and memos.
